There is a general perception that because management consulting hires only top people, they pay very high salaries. This is true for a few of the elite firms. Top tier firms rely on the power of their employer brand name and the prestige of management consulting ahead of salary to attract candidates. Often experienced young professionals who want to move to consulting find there is little remuneration benefit in switching.
